Leonas head to 10th-straight Pan Am finals with shutout win over Canada
Argentina booked their ticket to a 10th-straight Pan American Games final after a 3-0 dismissal of Canada in the semifinals. Canadian keeper Rowan Harris was exceptional in denying multiple close-range shots and penalty corner flicks but the Argentina offence was full-on and non-stop. Penalty corner goals from Valentina Raposo and Delfina Thome, plus a trademark Julieta Jankunas back-hand was enough to do Canada in.
USA women secure ticket to Pan Am finals after edging Chile in late night shootout
It was as tight a game as was expected between the No. 14-ranked Chile and No. 15-ranked United States of America who tied 1-1 in regular time, only to be divided by a shootout. The USA edged Chile 3-1 in the shootout but from the opening whistle came to play with a disciplined and structured game and their speed in attack was hard for Chile to manage.

In a hard-fought women’s semifinal at the 2023 Pan American Games, Canada faced a world number 3 Argentine team that set the early pace with a series of penalty corners and relentless attacks. The first quarter ended with a nil-nil scoreline, as both teams sized each other up. Canada’s defense, led by players like Sara McManus, Anna Mollenhauer, and Karli Johansen, as well as standout goalkeeper Rowan Harris, stood strong against the Argentine onslaught. Madi Thompson’s exceptional number-one running was a feature of the Canadian penalty corner defense.

SANTIAGO, Chile – In the semifinals of the Pan American Games Santiago 2023, the No. 23 U.S. Men’s National Team were up for a challenge against a skilled No. 7 Argentina. It was important match, with the winner moving on to the final and claiming a guaranteed spot in the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers. USA held their ground, keeping Argentina to their lowest goal total throughout the tournament, but produced no goals of their own as Los Leones came out on top 2-0.

Addressing the PAHF Congress earlier this week in Santiago, Chile, FIH President Tayyab Ikram gave a detailed update on where FIH stands today, in particular on the work done by hockey’s world governing body to develop and grow the game in all corners of the world. He insisted on the fact that never before had FIH done so much to empower National Associations (NAs) and help them achieve their development activities. One of the key areas of development being to provide the best possible facilities to our young generation.
