Africa Cup of Nations: South Africa's Hockey World Cup adventures gets underway



The Africa Cup of Nations saw a week of exciting hockey action culminate in a double victory for South Africa, giving the top ranked teams in both the men’s and women’s competition automatic qualification for the respective FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar and Rourkela and the FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup, Spain and Netherlands 2022.

South Africa claimed both the men’s and women’s titles at the Africa Cup of Nations hockey in Accra, Ghana.





South Africa secure berths at men and women Hockey World Cups



Favourites South Africa men were taken to the wire as they won their eighth Africa Cup of Nations in a row to book a return to Bhubaneswar at the 2023 World Cup. In a thrilling final, Egypt were great value as they took world No 11 South Africa to a shoot-out before losing out 3-1.

South Africa and Egypt faced off in the African Cup of Nations for the 6th consecutive time in Accra tonight. Both teams were desperate to secure qualification to the FIH Hockey World Cup, while for the South Africans a victory also offered a confirmed top 10 spot in the World Rankings ahead of the FIH Pro League.





South Africa come from behind to seal FIH World Cup Spot



A super start from the Ghanaians to take an early lead was not enough as the South Africans surged to a wonderful come from behind victory to seal their 7th consecutive African Cup of Nations and have confirmed their qualification for the FIH Hockey World Cup as a result.





Kenya ladies hockey team bag bronze in Afcon

The Kenya women's hockey team Sunday clinched the bronze medal at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations after edging Zimbabwe 3-1 a shoot-out in Accra, Ghana.

NAMIBIA's women beat Zambia 3-2 after a thrilling penalty shoot out to qualify for the fifth place play-off at the Afcon Championship in Accra on Friday.

United States sealed their place in the semi-finals of the women's Pan American Cup with a dominant victory over Peru as the pool phase concluded in Santiago.

T&T's stick women were at the end of a demoralizing 13-0 defeat by Canada on Sunday, when action continued in the Pan American Hockey Cup Challenge in Santiago, Chile, however, they still progressed to the next round.





USWNT Finishes Top of PAC Pool B & Advance Directly to Semifinals with Win Over Peru

SANTIAGO, Chile – In their final pool match of the 2022 Pan American Cup (PAC), the No. 15 U.S. Women’s National Team took on No. 34 Peru. Eight different athletes contributed to the 20-0 score, powered by six from Erin Matson (Chadds Ford, Pa.), to secure the top finish in Pool B and automatic advancement to the semifinals.

Japan are a step closer to finishing top of Group A in the Women's Hockey Asia Cup after winning a crucial match against holders India today in Muscat.

Defending champion India was stunned 0-2 by reigning Asian Games gold-medallist Japan in its second Pool A match of the Women's Asia Cup in Muscat on Sunday. Japan scored through Naga Yuri (2nd minute) and Saki Tanaka (42nd minute) to stun the Indians.

India are the top seeded team among the eight Asian teams assembled here to either win the Cup – or achieving the another objective of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup. However, the Japanese had other ideas and handed down India a rather humiliating 0-2 defeat today at Qaboos turf. Indian chief coach Janneke Schopman is not happy with the result. Japan coach could not go to Japan to train his team, yet it wins an Asian title

COVID times are different and strange too. One incident that occurred recently proves it perfectly – and go beyond.  Japan’s new women’s chief coach, appointed after the Tokyo Olympics, is still to enter the Japan soils, yet work is in progress, and interestingly none of the work suffered – Even the team went on to annex a coveted Asian title at Dongae in the last month.

Determined performance but Scotland fall to Poland in Spain



Scotland`s women lost their final match 3-1 to Poland at the EuroHockey Indoor Championships II in Ourense (Spain) this morning, but there was no disgrace in that. The Poles, one of the favourites for the tournament, are currently sixth in the FIH indoor rankings, 13 places above the Scots.





Abbott “immensely proud” of Irish women’s efforts at Euro indoors



Irish women’s indoor coach Rob Abbott said he was “immensely proud” of his side’s efforts at the EuroHockey Indoor Championship II in Spain in their first appearance in a tournament of this level for 30 years.





Henning to move on from Rot-Weiss for German men’s job

André Henning will formally step back from the Rot-Weiss Köln head coach role after the end of the indoor season as he moves on to coach the men’s national team.





Warmerdam signs up with Bloemendaal for next season



Dennis Warmerdam will transfer to Bloemendaal after this season with the 27-year-old international moving from Pinoké, where he made his comeback to top hockey in 2019.
