France cement top spot; India to face Belgium; Malaysia beat South Africa to final eight



In the penultimate day of pool matches at the FIH Men's Hockey Junior World Cup, Pakistan kept their hopes of a place in the last eight alive with a win against Egypt. The Pakistan team must now defeat Argentina if they are to finish in the top two in Pool D. France continued their fine form making it three wins from three matches with a convincing victory over Canada. South African hearts were broken when Malaysia snatched the win with just three minutes left on the clock. The final two matches of Day Four set the scene for the final eight when Belgium sealed top spot in Pool A, meaning they will meet India in the next round. The host nation beat Poland in the final match of the day to finish second in Pool B. The encounter will be a repeat of the 2016 Junior World Cup, where India beat Belgium to become Junior World Champions.

Rizwan Ali scored all three goals in Pakistan's 3-1 win over Egypt in their Hockey Men's Junior World Cup group match held in India's Bhubaneswar on Saturday.





Heartbreak for SA U21 as even battle shaded by Malaysians

As the group stage of action for South Africa and Malayisa came to its end at the 2021 FIH Junior World Cup of Hockey in Bhubaneswar, the two countries locked horns knowing they both needed a result to progress in the tournament. For South Africa it was a win needed, while Malaysia would secure their place in the top 8 with a draw.

MALAYSIA survived a brutal match to beat South Africa 4-3 and squeeze into the quarter-finals of hockey's Junior World Cup in Bhubanesar yesterday.





India outplay Poland but run into Belgium in Quarterfinals



India did what was expected — qualify for the quarterfinals of the 2021FIH Men’s Junior World Cup, booking a berth from Pool B with a resounding 8-2 win over Poland at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Saturday, November 27.

Sanjay Kumar, Araijeet Singh Hundal and Sudeep Chirmako scored a brace each as defending champions India trounced Poland 8-2 to qualify for the quarterfinals of the FIH Men's Junior Hockey World Cup here on Saturday. After scoring hat-tricks in the first two games, vice captain Sanjay (4th, 58th) continued his goal-scoring spree for India while Hundal (8th, 60th), who scored a hat-trick against Canada, too registered his name on the scoresheet.





Manpreet, Harmanpreet learning from mentoring Junior team



India captain Manpreet Singh and teammate Harmanpreet Singh addressed the media in an online conference on Saturday. The duo was at the Kalinga stadium in Bhubaneswar where the FIH Junior World Cup is in progress and expressed their thoughts on the Asian Champions Trophy in Dhaka, Bangladesh, next month where India will attempt to retain the title won in Muscat in 2018.

BHUBANESWAR: As the India men hockey team gear up for the  Asian Champions Trophy which will kick off on December 14, captain Manpreet Singh and vice-captain Harmanpreet expressed confidence about the team's prospects in Dhaka where they will defend the title.
