Olympic bronze-winning Indian men's hockey team captain Manpreet Singh was on Tuesday added to the list of Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna awardees, taking the total number of this year's winners to an unparalleled 12, with the ceremony scheduled for November 13 at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Manpreet was originally recommended for the Arjuna award but he joined veteran goalkeeper P R Sreejesh as the second hockey player in the list of awardees for the highest sporting honour.





Jude Menezes takes on new challenge



Hockey New Zealand is announcing the bittersweet news that Jude Menezes has accepted a role as the new head coach of the Japan Women’s team – he will head off as soon as he gets his visa, which is likely to be in the next couple of weeks.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Indian women’s hockey coach Sjoerd Marijne said he is yet to receive his “final salary” from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and a reward of Rs 25 lakh announced by the UP government.

Three months after the Indian women’s hockey team showcased their best-ever Olympics outing, the man credited with the transformation, Dutch coach Sjoerd Marijne, is still waiting for the last instalment of his salary and cash incentives. The reason for the delay: a crashed computer and bureaucratic red-tape.

Death of hockey Olympian Gulraiz Akhtar condoled



LAHORE - Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) President Brig (R) Khalid Sajjad Khokhar and General Secretary Asif Bajwa, Olympians Manzoor Junior, Khawaja Junaid, Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti, DG Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh and others condoled the sad demise of former hockey Olympian Gulraiz Akhtar, who died on Monday (November 1, 2021) and was laid to rest here.
