National women’s hockey team will on Wednesday seek to wrap up their impressive preliminary group stage show by seeing off Namibia in their final Group B match ahead of the semifinals of the ongoing African Hockey Road to Paris 2024 qualifiers in South Africa.

Namibia’s national women’s hockey team’s chances of qualifying for the Paris Olympics took a blow when they lost their opening two matches at the African Olympic Games Outdoor Hockey Qualifier in Pretoria.

Jharkhand Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2023: Vandana Katariya Creates History, India record Fourth Consecutive Win



Ranchi, October 31: The Indian women's hockey team secured their fourth consecutive victory at the Jharkhand Women's Asian Champions Trophy held at the Marang Gomke Jaypal Singh Munda AstroTurf Hockey Stadium here on Tuesday, defeating Japan 2-1.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Speedy Tigresses suffered their third defeat in the women's Asian Champions Trophy in Ranchi when they were outplayed 4-0 by Asian Games gold medallist China on Tuesday.

Ranchi: The Indian Women's Hockey Team on Tuesday registered a brilliant 2-1 win over Japan in their fourth encounter of the ongoing Jharkhand Women's Asian Champions Trophy Ranchi 2023. Navneet Kaur (31') and Sangita Kumari (47') netted a goal each for India, while Kana Urata (37') emerged as a lone goalscorer for Japan.

The battle of table-toppers was expected to be a close affair and it played out as such before India edged past Japan 2-1 on Tuesday to remain the only unbeaten side at the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2023.

Ranchi: Hockey India on Tuesday congratulated Indian Women’s Hockey Team forward player Vandana Katariya for earning her 300th International Cap. Vandana, who hails from Roshnabad, Uttarakhand, achieved the feat during India’s match against Japan at the ongoing Women’s Asian Champions Trophy Ranchi 2023.

At 31, she is the second oldest player in the team and playing her 300th international match on Tuesday, Vandana Katariya will be in an exclusive club of one as the highest-capped Indian women’s hockey player.

India has a rich heritage of Women’s hockey. There had been a women’s league in some metros like Kolkata in the early 1920s. Their National Championship started in the late 1930s, stopped, and re-started in the 1940s.  India is pioneer in bringing hockey into the fold of Asian Games (women’s version was included when India hosted the Asiad in 1982). No surprise therefore an Indian admino, Begum Aizal Rasool, was the first president of the Asian Women Hockey Federation who adorned the chair for about two decades. However, its players who bring the sport to the forefront. This has been accomplished today once again by ever-green star Vandana Katariya.

KUALA LUMPUR: Germany were forced to dig deep into their vaunted teamwork for a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Britain in their Sultan of Johor Cup (SoJC) final Group A match at the Taman Daya Stadium today.
