Argentina shutout Uruguay, USA blast past Trinidad and Tobago to open women’s Pool A



Day 2 of the XIX Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile started off with big wins for Argentina and the USA in women’s Pool A play. The No. 3-ranked Leonas defeated Uruguay 8-0, while two hat tricks lifted the Americans past Trinidad and Tobago by a big 15-0 score margin.





Dominant Performance Gives USWNT Opening Win at Pan American Games



SANTIAGO, Chile – The No. 16 U.S. Women’s National Team put up a dominant scoring performance against No. 47 Trinidad and Tobago in their first game of the Pan American Games Santiago 2023. Powered by hat tricks from both Sanne Caarls (Nieuw-Vennep, Netherlands) and Abigail Tamer (Dexter, Mich.), USA had nine different goal scorers on their way to a commanding 15-0 win.

Less than a month ago, the Indian women’s hockey team ended a disappointing third at the Asian Games, getting a medal but forcing a reset of the team’s plans over its Paris Olympics ambitions and qualification.





Women looking to ‘test mettle’

The failure to clinch the gold medal at the Asian Games still fresh in its mind, the Indian women’s hockey team will look to showcase its real potential in the Asian Champions Trophy when it starts its campaign against Thailand here tomorrow.

Two dress rehearsal tournaments start on the same day: India has huge stake in both

Two tournaments in which strong contender India figures start today within a gap of seven hours. While its opener of the 11th Sultan of Johor Cup at distant Malaysia for our colts, India is hosting the other at its hockey provenance Jharkhand. The latter is the first-ever AHF Women’s tournament on our soils in three decades. Under-21 boys start their title defence at Johor with a Pakistan match in the 10-Nation event (13.30 IST). Indian women, jaded and exhausted after Hangzhou no show, will take on Thailand in the evening (20.30 IST) with a fond hope of refurbishing their image.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sultan of Johor Cup (SoJC) which begins tomorrow at Taman Daya Stadium will serve as a tune-up for the Malaysian team competing in the Junior World Cup (JWC) in Bukit Jalil in December.

No. 7 Maryland field hockey falls 5-1 to No. 1 Northwestern in final regular season game

Maryland’s defense huddled around a Northwestern midfielder and looked to poke the ball out of the circle. A collision of players created an open canal for the ball to be passed into the center and redirected to the Terps’ net. The Wildcats’ score early in the first quarter was the first of five Northwestern goals that led to Maryland’s collapse in its final game of the season.





No. 7 Maryland field hockey trounced by No. 1 Northwestern to end regular season

A win would’ve earned the Terps a share of the conference regular season title, but instead they were locked into the No. 3 seed.
