Indian men, Chinese women seal Olympic Qualification



Hockey at Asian Games 2023 came to an end today with the India men's team and Chinese women's team claiming the gold medals and securing qualification to the Olympic Games Paris 2024! India and Japan faced each other in the men’s final yesterday with India registering a 5-1 win to secure their fourth gold medal in the competition's history, and Olympic qualification. In the women’s competition it was China taking on Korea in the finals. China edged the finals with a 2-0 win and in the process collected their 4th women’s Hockey gold at the Asian Games.

The Korean women’s hockey team claimed a silver medal after a 2-0 loss to host country China in the final at the Hangzhou Asian Games on Saturday, failing to secure a coveted ticket to the Paris Olympics.   





China won the gold medal in the women's hockey

China won the gold medal defeated South Korea by two goals to nil in the women's hockey event in the 19th Asian Games 2022 at Gongshu Canal Sports Stadium, Hangzhou in 2023. For the Chinese team Yi Chen and Zou Meirong scored goals.

For the Bronze Medal match India defeated Japan by two goals to one. For the Indian team Deepika Kumari and P. Sushila Chanu scored goals. Yuri Nagai scored a goal for the Japanese team.

Indian Women’s Hockey Team beat Japan 2-1 to win Bronze medal at 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022

Hangzhou: The Indian Women's Hockey Team on Saturday registered a brilliant 2-1 win over Japan to clinch the Bronze medal at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022. This is India's fourth Bronze medal in Women's Field Hockey at the Asian Games. Deepika (5’) and Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam (50’) scored a goal each for the Indian team, while for Japan, Captain Yuri Nagai (30’) netted the lone goal.

Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam scored the winning goal for Savita Punia-led side in the 50th minute to maintain India’s record of finishing with a medal at every Asian Games.

NEW DELHI: The calm and composed leadership of Harmanpreet Singh played a pivotal role in the Indian men's hockey team's successful campaign at the Hangzhou Asian Games, according to former Indian hockey star Dhanraj Pillay. He likened Harmanpreet's leadership style to that to that of "Captain Cool" MS Dhoni. Dhanraj, who led India to victory in the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games, emphasized that Harmanpreet's ability to remain calm under pressure was a key factor in India's gold-winning effort.

UCD 2-0 MONKSTOWN

The defending EYHL Women’s Division 1 Champions UCD wearing their breast cancer awareness pink outfit took on Monkstown in their EYHL Division 1 game at the national stadium in Belfield. It was a fairly lively tight first quarter which ended scoreless. Sophia Cole got a green card in the 14th minute which was 2 minutes on the sideline for her. Things got going in the second quarter. UCD took the lead through Leah O’Shea’s field goal in the 26th minute and the Students led 1-0 at half time. Lauren Johnston served a 2-minute suspension for UCD when she was green carded in the 32nd minute. And Katharine Egan got one in the 35th minute leaving the team shorthanded for most of that 5-minute stretch up to the 37th minute. Monkstown carved out a few chances of their own but were unable to get past a superb defence marshalled by Sarah McAuley and Katie Jane- Marshall and backstopped by the excellent Erika Gallagher. Aine Naughton made it 2-0 to UCD in the 61st minute from a field goal. And the Students held out for the victory. Leah Paul got a Yellow Card three minutes from time leaving UCD to see out the game down to 10 players, but they managed to see out the win.

Day 5 Results: 1st Hockey India Sub Junior Men & Women North Zone Championship 2023



New Delhi: The group stage of the 1st Hockey India Sub Junior Men & Women North Zone Championship 2023 concluded today in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. In the Sub Junior Women’s category, Hockey Haryana secured the top position with 12 points, followed by Uttar Pradesh Hockey at 9 points. Having secured top 2 places in the points table, Hockey Haryana and Uttar Pradesh Hockey confirmed their place in the Final and will face off against one another on Sunday at 1030 hrs.
