Indian Men's Hockey Team defeats Malaysia in Semis, sets up Final Showdown Against Pakistan Today
Oman: The Indian Men's Hockey Team will take on traditional rivals Pakistan in the inaugural Men’s Hockey 5s Asia Cup 2023 today. The Indian Team confirmed their spot after a comprehensive 10-4 win over Malaysia in the Semi-Final on Saturday. Meanwhile, Pakistan reached the Final after defeating Oman 7-3 in the first Semi-Final. India's previous meeting against the opposition in the tournament in the Elite pool stage match had ended with Pakistan winning 5-4.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia reached the semi-finals of the Hockey 5s Asia Cup by hammering Iran 6-1 in Salalah, Oman, on Saturday.
India claim double gold at Hockey5s Asia Cup 2023
The inaugural Hockey5s Asia Cup came to an end today at Salalah, Oman as both Indian women’s and men’s teams claimed the gold medals. The top three finishers (men and women) were guaranteed a spot at the inaugural FIH Hockey5s World Cup 2024. Joining India in the women’s podium, and securing their spot at the World Cup, were Thailand as silver medalists, and Malaysia as bronze medalists. In the men’s competition, joining India in qualifying for the World Cup, were Pakistan who won the silver medal and Malaysia, who finished fourth behind Oman, who took bronze. As Oman have already qualified for the World Cup as hosts, Malaysia take the third available spot from Asia.

Oman, 2nd September 2023: The Indian Men's Hockey Team were crowned Champions at the inaugural Men's Hockey5s Asia Cup on Saturday, which also served as Asia's qualifying tournament for the FIH Men's Hockey5s World Cup Oman 2024, defeating Pakistan 4-4 (2-0) in the all-important Final. Subsequently, India qualified for the FIH Men's Hockey5s World Cup Oman 2024. For India, Mohammed Raheel (19', 26') Jugraj Singh (7'), and Maninder Singh (10') were on target in the regulation time, while Gurjot Singh and Maninder Singh scored for India in the Shoot-Out to script their win. For Pakistan, Abdul Rehman (5'), Captain Abdul Rana (13'), Zikriya Hayat (14'), and Arshad Liaqat (19') scored the goals.

Indian men's hockey team also won the gold medal as women's hockey team won the gold medal in the 1st Men's Asian Hockey5s Qualifiers 2023 at Sultan Qaboos Youth Sports Complex, Salalah, Oman from 29 August to 2 September, 2023.
India defeated her arch rival Pakistan in the final by two goals to nil in the shootout, while the full time scores were 4-4.
The host Oman defeated Malaysia by 5-4 for the bronze medal.
Eleven teams participated in the event divided into two pools according to their rankings:
Challenger Pool: Iran, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Afghanistan
Elite Pool: India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Bangladesh, the host Oman and Japan

By winning the inaugural hockey World Cup in 1971, Pakistan had completed the Grand Slam of hockey, having already taken gold in field hockey at the 1968 Olympics and the 1970 Asian Games. Then, at the 1972 Olympics, Pakistan reached the final, where they lost to host West Germany 0-1. But they lost something more.
