Australia’s men make huge statement with large victory

South Africa’s men edge 9 goal thriller, England’s men make remarkable comeback and Scotland’s women hit double-figures



The morning session began with Wales’s women wrapping up their first points of the games, followed by Scotland’s women putting 11 past Kenya. The afternoon got off to a thrilling start as South Africa’s men edged an incredible game with Scotland, while England’s men pulled off a remarkable comeback against India. In the evening session Canada’s men rescued a point against Ghana and Australia made a real statement of intent by crushing New Zealand.

Ghana failed to notch a shot and were trailing Wales by only one goal until the fourth quarter. But a glaring video umpire howler put a spanner in the works of an otherwise “proud” performance as the Welsh ran out 4-0 winners.

Scotland’s women hit eleven goals without reply against Kenya in their third match at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. On a glorious morning at the University of Birmingham Hockey and Squash Centre, the free-flowing Scots put on a fantastic display of attacking hockey.

Kenya national women’s hockey team lost their third match at the 2022 Commonwealth Games on Monday afternoon after going down 11-0 to Scotland in Birmingham in United Kingdom.

Scotland’s Men snatched defeat from the jaws of victory against South Africa at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Their 5-4 loss in front of a huge crowd at the University of Birmingham Hockey and Squash Centre was hard to take after leading with four minutes to go.

England produced a fabulous fightback to draw 4-4 with India and remain unbeaten at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.





Indian Men Wilt Under Late England Resurgence, Play Out a 4-4 Draw



It won’t be a sweeping statement to say that the Indian men’s hockey team snatched a draw from the doorstep of victory in their crucial 2022 Commonwealth Games pool game against England at Birmingham. The Graham Reid-coached Indian outfit controlled the proceedings for three quarters but England backed by their boisterous home crowd struck three telling blows in a span of six minutes in the final quarter via the duo of Nicholas Bandurak and Phil Ropar. The late English resurgence coupled with a ten-minute yellow card to Gurjant Singh and temporary marching orders to Varun Kumar ensured India’s cup of frustration was overflowing.

England came back from 1-3 down at the end of the third quarter to finish level with India at 4-4 in a Group B men’s hockey match at the Commonwealth Games on Monday.

England came back from 1-3 down at the end of the third quarter to finish level with India at 4-4 in a Group B men’s hockey match at the Commonwealth Games on Monday.





India throw away lead as England bounce back to enforce 4-4 draw in men's hockey

India took a solid 4-1 lead in the match with Mandeep Singh (13', 22') scoring a brace and Lalit Kumar Upadhyay (3') and Harmanpreet Singh (46') scoring a goal each as well.

Canada and Ghana play to 1-1 draw in dramatic fashion

With the seconds ticking away and Ghana up 1-0, Canada made one last ditch effort. Team Canada played the ball into the circle and was awarded a last-second stroke. Keegan Pereira made good on the conversion and the game finished 1-0.

Birmingham — Ghana men were denied one of world hockey’s great wins when the world No 36 side succumbed to a disputed penalty stroke within the final second of their pool match against Canada on Monday night. “We were hoping to go the last whistle,” said Ghana’s Christopher Dogbe. “We were excited, we were enjoying the game. It’s very sad how the game ended.”

The Kookaburras’ array of strike power was on full display again as the defending Commonwealth Games gold medallists saw off arch rivals New Zealand 7-2.
