Refinement the mantra as India braces up for England challenge

India will be hoping to squash some doubts and turn in a couple of convincing performances when it hosts England in Bhubaneswar on Saturday and Sunday.

The ongoing campaign of the FIH Pro League has thrown up solutions and problems for the Indian men’s hockey team. After the Tokyo Olympics, coach Graham Reid has been on an experimental spree with the larger picture – Asian Games later this year and World Cup in 2023 – in mind.

In anticipation of the U.S. Women's National Team's upcoming FIH Hockey Pro League matches, here is a scouting report you’ll want to review before the starting whistle.





Hockey India to host Germany on 14th and 15th April 2022

The last time the two teams met was during the Bronze Medal match at the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 where India beat ​Germany 5-4 in a thrilling encounter to win the historic Olympic medal for the first time in 41 years.

Following the announcement and confirmation from the International Hockey Federation on Friday evening, Hockey India is confirmed to host Germany, for the double-header on 14th and 15th April 2022 to be played at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium, Bhubaneswar in Odisha.

Argentina, Netherlands first to top pools, England knock off hosts while Zimbabwe shock Canada



The opening day of the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup – the first-ever FIH World Cup hosted in Africa - was exciting and full of promising hockey. England stormed to the top of the three-team Pool B with a 3-0 win over South Africa, while Netherlands put away nine goals on the USA to take the top of Pool A. Zimbabwe provided the stunner of the day, out-playing Canada and taking a 2-1 win off the Junior Pan American champions. In Pool C, Korea squeaked out a 1-0 win over Uruguay, who were in their debut appearance at this tournament, while defending champions, Argentina, blasted past Austria, 8-0, to also secure three points and top Pool C.

England beat hosts South Africa 3-0 on the first day of matches at the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Women's Junior World Cup at the North-West University in Potchefstroom.





South Africa suffer opening day defeat.

The first ever FIH World Cup on African soil began in Potchefstroom today when hosts South Africa took on England at North West University. After months of planning, uncertainty and frustration, there was clear joy when the sides sprinted on in front of a vociferous crowd.





Netherlands Defeats U-21 USWNT in Junior World Cup Opener

POTCHEFSTROOM, South Africa – The U.S. U-21 Women’s National Team opened up their FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup campaign at North-West University in Potchefstroom, South Africa against the toughest team in their pool with The Netherlands. The Oranje showcased their experience and scoring ability, defeating USA 9-0 in Pool A.

Never before in the earlier editions of the Junior Women’s Hockey World Cup, India were probably talked about as one of the serious contenders. But in the 9th edition, the Indian junior eves are talked about as a team that have the ammuntion to sit atop the podium. The Blueskirts are packed with three young Olympians and a bunch of talented girls. And on Saturday, the Salima Tete-captained Indian side brushed aside the challenge of Wales, coasting home to a facile 5-1 win in their tournament opener at Potchefstroom.
