Austria and the Netherlands secure quarterfinal spots on day three of FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup



Austria and the Netherlands were the only teams to maintain their perfect records on day three at the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup in Pretoria, South Africa in both the men’s and women’s tournaments, so ensuring safe passage through to the quarterfinals.

The South African women’s team arrived in body for their Indoor Hockey World Cup match against the US on Tuesday morning, but they only showed up after halfway to fight back from two goals down for a 2-2 draw and score their first point of the tournament.

PRETORIA, South Africa – Up against the hosts, the No. 12 U.S. Women’s National Indoor Team faced No. 14 South Africa in their third pool game of the 2023 FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup at Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria, South Africa. Eager to come away with points, USA took a 2-0 lead early in the third quarter but South Africa responded by producing two goals within a minute span as the game finished in a 2-2 tie.

The SPAR South Africa Women’s Hockey team took on USA for the first time since 2015 at the Heartfelt Arena today. Their Pool A encounter was also a chance for either team to get an upper hand in the battle for a quarterfinal spot

PRETORIA, South Africa – The No. 18 U.S. Men’s National Indoor Team produced a key win over hosts No. 11 South Africa in their third pool game of the 2023 FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup at Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria, South Africa. After sharing goals early in the contest, USA's poised defense translated to positive attack to secure a 5-2 win.

The South African Indoor Hockey Men, powered by Tops at SPAR, were still feeling the effects of a bruising encounter with Czech Republic on Monday night as they returned to the park to take on the USA on Tuesday. Both teams knew a win would give them a wonderful position in lining up for the Quarter-Finals.

NAMIBIA gave a much better performance at the Indoor Hockey World Cup yesterday, with the women holding Canada to a 2-2 draw, while the men suffered a narrow 2-0 defeat to world champions, Austria.

World hockey has revealed the qualification pathway for Paris 2024 across both genders, which will see only one quota place on offer from continental championships and eight-team Olympic qualifying tournaments to determine the rest.





FIH Hockey Pro League 2022/23: action resumes in Australia



The FIH Hockey Pro League returns on 10 February as Australia host China and Germany in the women’s competition at Olympic Park Hockey Center in Sydney, to start off the second phase of the 2022/23 season. The men’s competition will resume on 28 February in Hobart with the Kookaburras hosting Argentina and Spain in the first mini-tournament following the conclusion of the men’s World Cup.
