Opening day goal-fest gets FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup off to a sizzling start in Pretoria



An impressive total of 84 goals were scored across the opening 12 games of the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup in Pretoria, South Africa as there were victories for Argentina, USA, Netherlands, defending champions Austria and Belgium in the men’s tournament and for Austria, Australia, Netherlands, Kazakhstan and the Czech Republic in the women’s event.

Mustapha Cassiem continued his incredible scoring spree with two early goals against Australia at the Indoor Hockey World Cup on Sunday, but it was skipper Jethro “Jet” Eustice’s calm penalty corner late in the game that clinched a 3-3 draw for the South African men’s team.

In a morning of high-octane action, the SA teams showed admirable fighting qualities as the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup, presented by SPAR, made a thrilling start at the Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria on Sunday.

Having watched the South African Women go down to a narrow defeat in their opener, the South African Indoor Hockey Men, powered by Tops at Spar, were determined to give themselves a winning start as they took on 2018 fourth-place finishers Australia.

NAMIBIA'S men and women both got off to a losing start at the Indoor Hockey World Cup in Pretoria on Sunday, with the women losing 5-3 to Kazakhstan, while the men lost 7-1 to the Netherlands.

PRETORIA, South Africa – The No. 12 U.S. Women’s National Indoor Team opened their 2023 FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup campaign at Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria, South Africa against No. 9 Australia. As the young USA squad showed early promise with the match tied at halftime, the red, white and blue was unable to tally anymore goals as Australia went on to win. 4-2.

PRETORIA, South Africa – The No. 18 U.S. Men’s National Indoor Team started their 2023 FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup journey at Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria, South Africa against No. 5 Czech Republic. Action packed from the start, USA stuck to their game plan and made the most of their opportunities to top higher ranked Czech 4-3, powered by a hat-trick from Marius Leser (Mannheim, Germany).





Hockeyroos 2023 Squad finalised



The net of Hockeyroos athletes has been widened after Head Coach Katrina Powell finalised the 2023 squad and announced the 18-player teams that will feature in the FIH Pro League home mini tournaments in Sydney and Hobart starting on Friday.
