India beats New Zealand in first match of new FIH Hockey Pro League season



The 2022-23 edition of the FIH Hockey Pro League season got off to a thundering start as hosts India beat New Zealand 4-3, courtesy of a brace from Mandeep Singh. After trailing 1-3, the Men in Blue came back from behind to win 4-3.

The Indian men’s hockey team came from two goals behind to beat New Zealand 4-3 in its opening match of the FIH Pro League 2022-23 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on Friday.

Two Mandeeps in the Indian side — younger Mor and experienced Singh — played a key role in India seeing a victory in the 4th FIH PRo League season opener today at the Kaling Stadium, Bhubaneswar, India. With spirited replies in the last quarter, the hosts romped home a fitting 4-3 win over New Zealand.





India Ride on Late Mandeep Fireworks to Outwit Black Sticks in Thriller



The ‘experience quotient’ in the Indian forwardline was missing owing to the absence of Akashdeep Singh and Lalit Kumar Upadhyay for the FIH Pro League games against New Zealand and Spain. It meant that there was larger responsibility on Mandeep Singh to shoulder more responsiblity upfront – and he just lived up to expectations, wriggling the Blueshirts out of potential trouble when they trailed 1-3 in the third quarter – to make matters worse, Sumit was serving a ten-minute yellow card after being earlier green-carded in the same quarter.

Mandeep scored in the 51st and 56th minute after India were down 2-3 at the end of the third quarter. Mandeep Mor (13th) and captain Harmanpreet Singh (41st) were the other goal-getters for India who are ranked fifth in the world.

The Black Sticks squandered a two-goal lead as they were unable to pull off an upset result in the opening game of the 2022/23 FIH Pro League.





India Hope to Conquer Spanish Frontier!



Spain men’s hockey team is making steady progress after celebrated former Dutch coach Max Caldas took charge after the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, where they finished eighth. The 49-year-old two-time Olympian (represented Argentina in 1996 and 2000 Olympics), who replaced Frechman Fred Soyez (who had a seven-year stint with the national side), has been able to instil a steely resolve in the team.

Namibia land double blow in opening test

The African Hockey Indoor Test Series between South Africa and Namibia in Windhoek got underway this morning with the opening test matches between the two World Cup bound nations.

Namibia landed a double blow winning the Men’s and Women’s first teach match this morning in the African Hockey Indoor Test Series in Windhoek. The nature of indoor hockey means the teams did not have to ponder on this for long as they took to the court again tonight.

It was a high scoring encounter, but one saw all action in the fourth quarter, as India and Great Britain drew their ill-temepred, last pool match 5-5. Though India scoring five goals has become a fixure here – it struck five goals in four match and one less in the other- its four goals came in the last quarter. Yellow cards were also a galore in the quarter despite goals reigning in.

Australia lives up to favourites tag in South African Victory

With all other games completed South Africa knew a victory against Australia would qualify them for the final of the Sultan of Johor Cup, a draw would push them into the bronze medal match and a defeat would leave them playing for 5th. That’s how tight the margins were.

Ball State field hockey fell to Miami University on Senior Day 7-0 Oct. 28. The loss leaves the Cardinals 7-10 on the season and brings the RedHawks to 11-6.





Spider Hockey Drops 2-1 Season Finale at VCU

Field Hockey Set For Regular-Season Finale At Duke


Ciana Riccardo and the Tar Heels, who beat Duke on their home turf last October, will travel to Durham on Saturday.

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina will wrap up the 2022 field hockey regular season Saturday afternoon just down the road in Durham, taking on Duke for a noon Atlantic Coast Conference game. The matchup, set for Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium, will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

Field Hockey Earns Top Seed for 2022 Atlantic 10 Championship



NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Saint Joseph's field hockey team, ranked 11th in the nation, claimed its sixth Atlantic 10 regular season title in seven seasons and earned the top seed for the 2022 Atlantic 10 Championship, which opens on Thursday morning at the Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex in Amherst, Massachusetts.





'1975 Indian hockey team prayed in temple, mosque, gurudwara'

Indian hockey legend VJ Philips, who won the gold medal in the 1975 World Cup, recalls moments that spurred on the men's team in Kuala Lumpur.

India will be looking to end their medal drought at the the FIH Men's Hockey World Cup in Bhubaneswar-Rourkela 2023 in less than hundred days from now. No medal has been won by the Indian team at this event in the last 47 years. The last time a medal was won, the legendary VJ Philips was known as one of the best outside right players in the world.





One week to go to 48th FIH Congress



Lausanne, Switzerland: The 48th Congress of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) will be held virtually on 4-5 November. The meeting of FIH’s supreme body includes the election of the new FIH President and of Executive Board Ordinary Members. The full agenda is available here.
