Germany and Belgium through to quarter-finals where New Zealand and Netherlands lie in wait



The first set of cross-over matches showed the two sides of penalty corners. For Germany, although they managed to carve out a 1-0 win over South Africa, they will look back with frustration at the multiple chances that went begging. Then Belgium stepped up and put on a consummate display of finishing from set pieces as they beat Chile 5-0.

An inspired defensive display by the South Africans almost denied Germany the victory and a place in the top 8, but a good goal from Nike Lorenz was enough to secure the Europeans a place in the Quarter Finals.

Belgium have thumped Chile 5-0 to set-up a quarter-finals clash against defending champions The Netherlands at the Women's International Hockey Federation (FIH) World Cup at the Wagener Hockey Stadium in Amstelveen.
