Pool play takes shape as Netherlands, Argentina and Belgium have big wins, while India, England draw and Korea find late goal to edge Canada



Netherlands stormed their way to the top of Pool A after a 3-1 win over Germany, while India and England had an exciting 1-1 draw in Pool B play. Belgium took down South Africa 4-1 with double goals from each of Stephanie vanden Borre and Charlotte Englebert. Pool C saw an impressive performance from Canada but Korea found responses to come back and take the game 3-2, while Argentina blasted Spain 4-1.

 Argentina, the Tokyo 2020 silver medallists, earned a resounding 4-1 win over co-hosts Spain at the 2022 Women's International Hockey Federation (FIH) Hockey World Cup.





Belgium win opener against South Africa

South Africa began the 2022 FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup quest this afternoon against Belgium, a team ranked ten spots ahead of themselves. It was the first official test match under Giles Bonnett who was recently reappointed to the role. It also marked international debuts for Jean-Leigh du Toit and Kayla de Waal, both who starred for the SA U21 Women at the Junior World Cup.





England share spoils with India in World Cup opener



England and India shared a tense 1-1 draw in their Pool B opener at the FIH Hockey Women's World Cup in Amstelveen.

Amsterdam — With a newly, albeit unpolished, front foot mindset, England women are already on the backfoot after their opening World Cup match here. A 1-1 draw with India was the same outcome as the pair’s clash at London 2018 as England failed to win their first match for the third World Cup running.

It was a match that could have gone either way and in the end India-England had to settle for a 1-1 draw in the World Cup – a result that won’t entirely disappoint both sides. Intesrestingly, at the 2018 World Cup in London, India faced England in their tournament opener and eked out a similar 1-1 draw. Indian skipper Savita was forced to pull off a splendid save from Hannah Martin in the early exchanges before David Ralph-coached England outfit took the important lead when Isabelle Peter pounceD on a pass from Owsley Lily – the 27-year-old forward in the nick of time deflected past onrushing Savita.
