The fast and short format of hockey will make its much-anticipated bow at the Hero FIH Hockey5s Lausanne 2022 today.





Field hockey pushes 5-a-side format toward Olympic goal

The Hockey5s event this weekend in the International Olympic Committee’s home city of Lausanne, Switzerland, will launch senior tournaments for men and women in the shorter format.

As Olympic sports target new and more dynamic youth-focused formats, field hockey is making its move toward a first World Cup for a five-a-side version and one day joining the Summer Games.

It will be a test of fitness, skill and speed for Olympic bronze medallist India when they open their campaign against Switzerland on Saturday in the inaugural FIH Hockey 5s, a shorter and faster version of the traditional field hockey. The two-day event, an FIH's effort to promote the game among masses in a shorter version similar to T20 in cricket, Rugby7s and 3x3 basketball, will look to create a new genre for the game and increase its appeal among the fans.





Randall Retires from U.S. Women’s National Team



COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – U.S. Women’s National Team athlete Haley (née Schleicher) Randall (Virginia Beach, Va.) has announced her retirement from the team. The 23-year-old competed in 10 international matches for the red, white and blue.





USMNT Heading to Scotland for 4-Nations Tournament at End of June



GLASGOW, Scotland – The No. 22 U.S. Men’s National Team will head to Scotland for a 4-Nations Tournament at the end of June to compete against No. 13 Ireland, No. 17 Wales and No. 20 Scotland. Being held from June 29 to July 3 at the Uddingston Hockey Club in Glasgow, Scotland, USA will face each team once before a round of crossovers.
