FIH Pro League prompts movement in rankings while Bermuda benefit from successful CAC Games Qualifiers



The FIH Hockey Pro League has precipitated some movements in the top reaches of the FIH World Rankings, while the CAC Games Qualifiers in Pembroke, Bermuda have had a similar impact lower down the rankings. Here are the movers and shakers as we take our monthly look at the teams’ movements.

The heart-breaking loss to England, who held their nerve to snatch a victory from the Indian Junior Women in the third/ fourth placing match, is now behind them and the players are now looking forward to their exposure with the Senior side, says Bichu Devi Kharibam, the star goalie who was the cynosure of Indian defence at the prestigious quadrennial event. "We were all very upset after that match and some of us could not stop crying. We were so close to standing on the podium and it was quite hard to accept the defeat," said Bichu recalling the moment when they lost the shootout after ending regulation time in 2-2 stalemate.

For nearly a decade and a half, the speed quotient in the Indian forwardline was provided by SV Sunil. The tall, lanky striker from Karnataka regaled hockey fans across the country as well as abroad with his sizzing linear runs and breathtaking dribbles that left the opposition defence at sixes and sevens. Of course, it is a fact of life that Sunil no longer wears the Indian jersey after having announced a break from international hockey – at 32, the announcement is tantamount to drawing curtains on his illustrious international career that was adorned with 264 international appearances and more than 70 goals. A team man to the core, one cannot overlook his immense goal-creating abilities that have helped his team-mates getting their name on the goal-scorer sheet on so many occasions.





US Junior High Performance Announces Rosters for Women’s U-16 & Rise Series Against Canada

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Following a training camp two weekends ago, the Junior High Performance Staff has established the U.S. U-16 and Rise Women’s National Team rosters that will compete against Canada, in two separate series in different countries. Originally set to take place in the middle of April, these matches have been shifted to May where each squad will play a four-game series against their Canada counterpart.
