Clinical Indian eves end Dutch winning streak

India registered their first win against Netherlands in over a decade with a clinical 2-1 win thanks to their efficient attacking performance backed by their usually stellar defence. Netherlands came into the contest against India today with a long winning streak in the FIH competitions, with their last loss coming against Argentina in the FIH Hockey Pro League back in 2020. But with a much-changed team filled with youngsters, they more than met their match against an experienced Indian team.

Indian Women Post Famous Win Over Netherlands – First in 48 Years!

There was a great deal of talk on the eve of the India-Netherlands clash over the Dutch not coming to India with their first-choice side because many players are either busy preparing for the Euro Hockey League or doing Junior World Cup duty in South Africa. To call a spade a spade, it can’t be India’s focus area if the visitors took a call to field a second-string or even a third-string side in a tournament having the stature of FIH Pro League. Indian eves did what they had to do – give their best shot and prevailed over the Netherlands by the odd goal in three – their first win over the Dutch in 48 years – they last beat them 1-0 at the 1974 World Cup at France.

Germany stun Argentina with four goal first half to join India, Netherlands and England in semi-finals

Quarter-finals day produced four top class matches with some tremendous skills on display but the performance of the day was that of the German team as they put on a classy show to outgun reigning champions Argentina. India put in a dominating and professional performance to defeat Asian rivals Korea. The Eves barely broke into top gear and it is exciting to think there is much more to come from this team.

India East Past South Korea to Romp into Semifinals

Indian junior eves have ticked almost all the boxes in the Pool stage of the 9th Junior Women’s World Cup, maintaining an all-win record. The Salima Tete-captained side must have surprised many by their imperious showing in the showpiece event – the manner in which they put it across Germany 2-1 must have made other top teams such as the Netherlands, Argentina, and England sit up and take notice of them. With all respect to South Korea, the league-phase performance of the Erik Wonning-coached side left no one in doubt who will start as favourties in the quarterfinal clash. South Korea to be honest, would consider themselves lucky to make it to the quarterfinals despite losing two of their three pool games – they just made it on better goal average to nudge out Uruguay and Austria.

Unbeaten India storm into semi-finals with 3-0 win over South Korea

India will next face the winner of the other quarter-final between three-time champions Netherlands and South Africa on Sunday.

Brilliant Dutch made to work hard for Quarter Final Victory against the hosts

Hosts South Africa knew they would be up against it as they took on free-scoring tournament favourites Netherlands in the second quarter-final of the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup in Potchefstroom today. South Africa had secured their spot in the top 8 by virtue of finishing second in the pool stages to England, while Netherlands had swatted away the challenge of USA, Canada and Zimbabwe in belligerent fashion.
