Lively Japan punish lethargic India to enter the Final

What a time to pull off a historic win! Japan shocked high-flying India 5-3 in the second semi-final of the Asian Champions Trophy in Dhaka on Tuesday and registered their first-ever win over India in a major tournament. The Asian Games champions now set sights on adding to that title when they play South Korea who beat joint-holders Pakistan 6-5 in Wednesday’s final at the Maulana Bhashani stadium.

Japan were devastating on the counter-attacks and their man-marking defence blunted India’s attack for much of the match. India will play Pakistan for third place next.

Dhaka: Defending champions and Olympic bronze medallist India dished out a below-par performance to suffer a stunning 3-5 defeat against Japan in the second semi-final of the Asian Champions Trophy men's hockey tournament in Dhaka on Tuesday.





Japan Exuding Immense Promise to be Asian Hockey Powerhouse



For a long period of time, Japan struggled to grab the eyeballs as the focus of Asian hockey revolved around traditional powerhouses India, Pakistan, and to some extent Malaysia and South Korea. One can’t fault anyone if Japan was touted as a pushover even as they regularly featured in tournaments such as Asian Games, Asia Cup, Asian Champions Trophy among others.

Singh Names 18-Athlete USMNT Roster for 2022 Pan American Cup

Punjab crowned champions of Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2021

Hockey Punjab goalkeeper Kamalbir Singh emerged as the hero of the match, making as many as four saves in the shootout to help his team clinch the title.

Hockey Punjab beat Uttar Pradesh Hockey 2-1 in a shootout to clinch the 11th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship Pimpri Chinchwad 2021 title here in Pune today whereas Hockey Karnataka beat Hockey Maharashtra 5-2 to finish third in the tournament.
