Kookaburras secure 7-0 win over KOR; Australia 'A' defeat PAK 3-1

Jake Whetton’s goal five minutes after the starting whistle triggered the Kookaburras’ firepower which resulted in a 7-0 victory over Korea in their second match of the men’s International Challenge in Hobart.

There was no holding back for the Kookaburras after Jake Whetton opened the floodgates five minutes into the start of the match. Awarded their first penalty corner of the International Challenge, Whetton quickly picked up a rebound shot after Korea’s goalkeeper Pyo Doo Hong denied Chris Ciriello’s drag flick, pushing the Kookaburras in front 1-0.

Following two minutes later, the Kookaburras received a second opportunity at converting a penalty corner. Matt Gohdes, stepping up to the top of the circle, netted Australia’s second goal with an on-target slap shot.

Unable to work a penalty corner in their previous match against Pakistan, it was clear the Kookaburras had done their homework. Receiving another penalty corner opportunity at the 19th minute mark, Northern Territories youngster, Jeremey Hayward, sent a powerful drag flick into the back of the net, adding to the score, 3-0.

Focused and working together as a team, Jamie Dwyer also found the back of the net after taking a quick shot at the top of the circle only seconds before the halftime siren. Dwyer’s goal offered the Kookaburras breathing space coming into the third quarter with a 4-0 lead.

Doubling up, Whetton and Gohdes each scored their second goal of the night in the 37th and 39th minutes. Showcasing great skill, Whetton’s tomahawk could not be denied by goalkeeper Jaehyeon Kim and Gohdes’ quick shot away in their attacking circle had the Kookaburras sitting on 6-0 lead.

Awarded another penalty corner in the 44th minute, due to unfair play by Korea, New South Wales’ Matthew Dawson secured his first international goal after firing a fast paced drag flick to the top left of the net, locking down a 7-0 victory for the Kookaburras over Korea.

Pleased with the team’s second test match performance, Kookaburras head coach Graham Reid commented, “It’s hard when you’re up 4-0 coming into halftime and then 6-0 coming into the third quarter to stay focused. One of the things we spoke about was keeping it simple in the last quarter, which they achieved. Overall, I was really happy with the team’s performance today.”

Discussing penalty corners and their recovery after playing Pakistan on Saturday, Reid added, “We have been doing a lot of work on our penalty corner attacks and today we converted four of our penalty corner opportunities, which is very pleasing to see.

“The team has recovered well here in Hobart and it has been a good bonding experience for all of us. We have all learnt a lot with 40 traveling athletes and the guys have really stepped up to the challenge performing well.”

The Kookaburras’ third test match will take place on Tuesday 5 May at 7pm AEST against Trans-Tasman rivals, the New Zealand Black Sticks. The Kookaburras last met the Kiwis at the recent Sultan Azlan Shah Cup final, where the Kookaburras went down to the Black Sticks 3-1 on a shoot-out.

Japan hold listless India in first tie

Arnab Lall Seal

BHUBANESWAR: Fans turned out in large numbers to watch the Indian hockey team take on Japan in the first of the four-match series. However, they were left disappointed with the showing of Sardar & Co as Japan held them to a 1-1 draw at Kalinga Stadium on Sunday.

Japan's Daichi Kurogawa opened the scoring in the 19th minute while VR Raghunath equalized when he converted a penalty corner in the 44th minute. They will now play the second match of the four-match series on Tuesday.

After they won bronze at Sultan Azlan Shah Cup beating Australia 4-2, expectations ran high. But India were back to their inconsistent best against Japan. Poor defending, inadequate striking prowess, inability to win or convert penalty corners plagued the team.

India started well with a flurry of attacks early in the first quarter. They failed to score but did win the first penalty corner of the match. Rupinder Pal Singh, who was at times sloppy in defence, took the shot but hit wide.

Few minutes later, it was Japan who won their first penalty corner but the score remained goalless as PR Sreejesh kept out the shot with ease.

The world No. 16 team didn't give up and started playing more attacking hockey in the second quarter. They finally achieved their target when Kurogawa put Japan ahead.

'Rusty' India play 1-1 draw with Japan in first hockey Test

BHUBANESWAR: Displaying rusty defence, Indian men's hockey team played out a 1-1 draw against Japan to begin its four-match Test series on a disappointing note on Sunday.

For India, drag-flicker VR Raghunath converted a penalty corner in the 44th minute to get even with their opponents after Japan drew first blood in the second quarter.

After a couple of unsuccessful penalty corner attempts by both the teams, Japan struck in the 19th minute.

Japanese midfielder put a hard slap inside the D and striker Kurogawa Daichi quickly tucked it inside the bar as the visitors took lead.

Attacks and counter-attacks continued in the second and the third quarter as India finally broke even in the third quarter.

Gurbaj earned India penalty corner and Raghunath clinically converted it into a goal.

Sardar Singh pushed the ball in hard and Raghunath dragged it on the left of the Japanese goalkeeper and the ball ticked a defender's stick en route to the net.

Paul Van Ass-coached side got another corner in the 52nd minute but Raghunath failed to get lucky this time around and the scoreline stayed static in the remaining minutes of play.

Meanwhile Indian defender Kothajit Singh marked his 100th international appearance in this game.

Indian defender Birendra Lakra also played his 100th international match in the drawn game against Japan.

The 25-year old has been the backbone of the team and even been part of all important international tournaments since he made his debut during the test series against South Africa in 2012.

His outstanding performance over the last year resulted in he being adjudged the Player of the Year for 2014 at the first edition of Hockey India Annual Awards announced recently.

Grange & Edinburgh University win National League Grand Finals

A thrilling end to the Scottish Hockey domestic season took place at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre as the Men's and Women's National League Grand Finals and Play-Offs second legs provided much drama, excitement and great hockey.

Men's National League Division 1 Grand Final

The Men's National League Grand Final between Bromac Kelburne and Grange was dramatically decided by a penalty shoot-out after a 2-2 draw in regulation time over two legs, with the Edinburgh side triumphing in a thrilling climax.

Kelburne's best chance in a goalless first half fell to Lee Morton, who was found by an exquisite pass from Chris Nelson, but the Scotland U21 international's shot rebounded off the right hand post.

Grange also had a great opportunity shortly before half-time, but Andrew Brogdon's reverse stick effort sailed over the bar.

However, after 105 minutes without a goal, the deadlock was finally broken by Kelburne two minutes into the second half. Mark Ralph's penalty corner effort was initally saved by Grange's Sean Hadfield, but the Scotland and GB international was on hand to collect the rebound and strike on the reverse to make it 1-0.

Grange were level in the 43rd minute though when Todd Harmsworth cross was deflected into the right hand corner of the net by Michael Fenelon.

Two minutes later, Mark Ralph's penalty corner was brilliantly stopped by Hadfield, only for the resulting rebound to be expertly controlled by Michael Christie, who played the ball back to Ralph to dispatch into the net on the reverse stick.

Nevertheless, the Edinburgh side picked themselves up to find another equaliser in the 51st minute, using a clever penalty corner set-play that culminated in Cameron Fraser blasting the ball into the goal to make it 2-2.

Chances fell to both sides to find a winning goal, but the National Champions Trophy would be decided by a penalty shoot-out, Grange holding their nerve to run out 4-3 winners and take the 1st European qualification spot and the trophy.

Women's National League Division 1 Grand Final

In the Women's National League Division 1 Grand Final, Edinburgh University overturned yesterday's 2-0 defeat to Grove Menzieshill to win by the same scoreline today.

The match subsequently went to a penalty shoot-out, the students holding their nerve to win 3-2.

Edinburgh University had stormed into a 2-0 lead within the opening ten minutes of the first half; in the seventh minute, Bethan Mann's cross from the left hand of the circle was deflected into the net by Louise Fleming's crafty stick intervention, before Becky Dru's penalty corner drag-flick was parried by Grove Menzieshill 'keeper Cath Rae onto the bar, only for Mann to bundle home the rebound.

University win the National Champions Trophy and will take the first European qualification spot, while Grove Menzieshill receive the second European qualification spot as runners-up.

Men's National League Division 1 Relegation Play-Off

Dundee Wanderers appear to have unlocked the secret to securing survival in Men's National League Division 1 after they defeated Inverleith 5-3 on aggregate in the Relegation Play-Off to retain their status in the top league for the second year running.

After a 2-1 win yesterday, two goals from Bobby Ralph and one from Fergus Sandison gave the Dundonians a 3-2 win in the second leg.

Wanderers took the lead in only the fourth minute after an Inverleith attack broke down just outside the Taysiders' circle. Fergus Sandison was alive to snatch the ball and run almost the entire length of the pitch to lash the ball on his reverse stick into the bottom right hand corner to make it 1-0.

Wanderers found themselves 2-0 up in the 24th minute, again Fergus Sandison was involved playing in Bobby Ralph just in front of goal. The initial shot was saved by Greg McKenzie in the Inverleith goal but Ralph made no mistake from the rebound to crack the ball low and hard into the net.

Inverleith were back in the match two minutes later though, Joe Waterson finding Andrew Malcolm in space to play in James Gray, who controlled the ball excellently before firing past Wanderers' Lewis Beer to make it 2-1.

Nevertheless, Ralph was Inverleith's tormentor once again only sixty seconds later, Paul Dailly and Frank Mulgrew combining to find him in space inside the circle to turn and crack the ball home to restore Wanderers' two goal cushion.

As the half-time hooter approached, Inverleith grabbed a lifeline when Patrick Christie's speculative pass found Magnus Ferrier, his scuffed shot running into the path of Andrew Dane who shot past Beer from close range to make it 3-2 at the interval.

A tense second half affair ensued with chances for both sides; Inverleith possibly having the best opportunities right at the end of the contest but Beer stayed strong in the Wanderers' nets to ensure a win for the Taysiders and survival for a second year running.

Women's National League Division 1 Promotion / Relegation Play-Off

Kelburne Ladies retained their National League Division 1 status with a comfortable win over Inverleith Ladies in the Women's Promotion / Relegation Play-Off. Following yesterday's 1-1 draw, the Paisley side seized the initiative in today's second leg, winning 4-0 and 5-1 on aggregate.

Kelburne Ladies retained their Division 1 status with a convincing second leg display against Inverleith. Photo Credit: Duncan Gray

Kelburne Ladies took the lead early in the contest with a goal from Maddie Cleat; Caitlin Girdwood drove into the circle to unleash a shot on goal that Inverleith goalkeeper Nikki Monaghan could only block into the path of the midfielder who stroked the ball into the far corner to make it 1-0 in the seventh minute.

Inverleith Ladies were almost back in the contest at a penalty corner in the 13th minute but brilliant goalkeeping from Lauren Grant denied Amy Costello's strike before Drew Berry made two goal-line blocks from both Lucy Jamieson and then Erin Stringer.

The aformentioned miss would prove costly for Inverleith when Kelburne doubled their five minutes later. Stevie McInally took advantage of a free hit on the left of her opponents' half to play in Cleat, who made no mistake with a fantastic reverse stick shot that crashed into the roof of the net for a 2-0 lead.

McInally almost registered Kelburne's third goal in the 22nd minute, only for Monaghan to deny her sweetly struck low drive with a good stop.

Kelburne wrapped up the match two minutes after half-time after securing their third goal.. McInally found herself in space on the left of the Inverleith half and found Emma Barlow bearing in on goal, the midfielder making no mistake in rounding Monaghan to coolly slot the ball into the empty net.

In the 65th minute, a great pass from McInally played in Barlow once more to have a shot on goal, this time her effort cannoning off an Inverleith defender's stick against Monaghan's pads and then over the line to leave the scoreline at 4-0.

Grange land Scotland's Champions Trophy

Grange ended Bromac Kelburne’s lengthy reign as Scottish champions in dramatic fashion as they won a shoot-out after the sides were inseparable after two legs of the championship final.

Saturday’s first leg ended scoreless before the second tie finished 2-2 in which Grange held their nerve to run out 4-3 winners in the final denouement.

In a close-knit batte, it took 107 minutes of action before the deadlock was finally broken as Kelburne – who have won the last 11 league titles – hit the front via Mark Ralph, rebounding his own penalty corner shot after Sean Hadfield’s initial save.

Grange were level in the 43rd minute though when Todd Harmsworth cross was deflected into the right hand corner of the net by Michael Fenelon.

Two minutes later, Ralph's corner was brilliantly stopped by Hadfield, only for the resulting rebound to be expertly controlled by Michael Christie, who played the ball back to Ralph to dispatch into the net on the reverse stick.

Chances fell to both sides to find a winning goal, but the National Champions Trophy would be decided by a penalty shoot-out, Grange holding their nerve to run out 4-3 winners and take the 1st European qualification spot and the trophy.

The win means Grange will be Scotland's number one seed in Europe next season with Kelburne the second representative. Grange's performance in the EuroHockey Club Champions Trophy will determine at what level they will both play next term.

Leopold oust Waterloo while Dragons slay Leuven

Royal Leopold ended Waterloo Ducks three-year reign as Belgian champions as they won a shoot-out in their two-legged semi-final, setting up a final with Dragons who beat KHC Leuven.

Leopold won their initial match on Friday evening 3-2 but they fell 2-1 to the Ducks in Sunday’s second leg. Waterloo, though, looked well set to progress to the final when they went 2-0 ahead via John-John Dohmen’s first half effort and a corner from Max Bertrand.

But, seven minutes from the end, Tanguy Zimmer fired home a drag-flick for Leopold to make it 3-3 on aggregate overall, leading to the shoot-out. And they duly carried the momentum into the penalties to book their place in the final while also earning an EHL place.

Dragons route to the final – their fifth appearance in the last six years – was much simpler as they beat Leuven 3-1 on Friday night and subsequently added a 2-0 win on Sunday in the second leg.

Jeffrey Thys and Felix Denayer got the goals to see them home with the minimum of fuss.

Road to Lee Valley: Masters Finals

Sevenoaks celebrate their masters win 2015

The pace might not be as rapid as it was, but the competitive spirit and the will to win is still there. Read on for the reports of some excellent Masters Finals at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.

Men’s O50s Trophy: Hereford 0-4 Sevenoaks

A superb goalkeeping display by Hereford’s Pete Preece proved to be in vain as Sevenoaks dominated the Masters O50s Trophy Final. A brace from Henry Robinson and one each for Richard Barrett and David Knox did the damage but without Preece the score could have been more.

The game was played with great spirit and sportsmanship as both sides braved the terrible conditions to treat their supporters to some excellent hockey. Preece had already denied Sevenoaks when Robinson opened the scoring with a lovely deft finish. The No11 grabbed his second on 24 minutes, seizing on a loose ball and firing home to double the advantage.

On the stroke of half time, Robinson turned provider, teeing up Barrett who made space well before slotting into the bottom corner.

Sevenoaks continued to push in the second half and were unlucky not to extend their lead. Stephen Stowell’s clever deflection struck the post and then Barrett hit the other post from the rebound. Preece continued to excel and then when Knox beat him, he too saw his effort thump the woodwork. The Sevenoaks 147 finally got the better of the goalkeeper, smashing home after a rebound to make it 4-0 and put the game beyond doubt, securing the trophy for the Kent side.

Masters O50s Shield: Bournemouth 1-2 Charnwood Mountsorrel.

Charnwood Mountsorrel rounded off a great weekend for Leicestershire hockey following in the footsteps of Vase Winners Coalville Town to capture the O50s Shield. Goals from Colin Taylor and Paddy Oakman were enough to give them the win in a hard-fought battle with Bournemouth.

The first half was an even affair with Bournmouth’s Eric Holt going close with a lovely driving run and shot that flashed just wide of the post. At the other end, Bournemouth goalkeeper Colin Kimber had to be on his mettle early on but he showed good awareness and determination to get out of his goal well to repel the Charnwood attacks.

It was level at the break but both sides had their chances. Into the second half and the Leicestershire outfit thought they’d opened the scoring only for Martin Grevett to effect a superb goal line clearance.

Charnwood drew first blood after a lovely flowing move freed Colin Taylor in the circle. He jinked inside the defender and fired a lovely strike into the bottom corner.

Bournemouth rallied and levelled the scores, a nice turn and shot from, Grevett was turned in at the far post by Andy Goodbourn to square it up. Parity didn’t last long however and Charnwood re-established their lead. The outstanding Oakman cut in from the right, faked a cross and found a gap at the near post, beautifully deceiving the goalkeeper. That proved to be the winner and despite some nervy moments, Charnwood Mountsorrel took the trophy back to Leicestershire with them.

Masters O50s Cup Final: Reading 3-0 Harleston

Reading took the Masters O50s Cup with a 3-0 win over Harleston Magpies. Goals from Rob Thompson, Roger Wall and Tim Armitage gave them the glory in rain at Lee Valley.

There were some lovely skills and some neat passing moves on display in the first half as both sides tried to get a foothold in the game. Reading’s Tim Armitage looked composed on the ball and was at the heart of everything Reading did going forwards whilst Jon Rees’ direct approach play was a constant threat. For Harleston Phillip Cobbald gave the Reading defence plenty to think about with his pace and darting runs from deep looking the most likely source of the opening goal. Despite plenty of industry and endeavour from both sides it remained 0-0 at the break.

Harleston were in the ascendancy at the start of the second half but against the run of play a piece of individual magic from Rob Thompson broke the deadlock. The No10 drove forwards from near half way before hitting a blistering shot into the net giving the goalkeeper no chance. Thompson almost added another but Murray Graham made a fine save to deny him. They didn’t have to wait long for the second however as Roger Wall broke forwards and slotted in with a fine finish. Harleston could have hauled themselves back in it from the penalty spot but Peter Dolton’s effort was saved brilliantly by Suneil Raval diving to his right. Tim Armitage put the game beyond doubt with two minutes to go, scoring the third at the second attempt after a good save from Graham.

Reading celebrated their second trophy of the weekend to the delight of their travelling fans.

Masters O60s Plate Final: Gloucestershire 1-5 Iceni Rex Essex.

A clinical display of finishing from Iceni Rex Essex helped them to a convincing 5-1 win over Gloucestershire in the Masters O60s Plate Final. Braces from Peter Wright and Tim Smith as well as strike from Ken Wooding did the damage in an attacking encounter.

Iceni had got their noses in front when Wright produced a superb finish in the 14th minute and although both sides attacked at will there were no further goals until a late flurry at the end of the first half, sparked by Smith’s first of the day, which made it 2-0 in the 29th minute. Just moments later Wooding made it 3-0 and then Gloucestershire struck back with a goal from Andy Fraser.

Gloucestershire’s task became even more difficult immediately after the break as a lovely piece of skill by Nick King down the right set up Smith who sent a searing strike into the roof of the net for 4-1.

Nigel Sherwood had a chance to restore some pride for Gloucestershire but his shot fizzed just wide of the post. With time running out, the West outfit’s misery was complete as Wright rounded the goalkeeper to finish powerfully for his second and his team’s fifth, making it Iceni 5-1 Gloucestershire.

Masters O40s Cup Final: Stourport 3-1 Khalsa

Stourport took the honours in front of a noisy crowd in a classic all-Midlands clash with a 3-1 defeat of old rivals Khalsa, winning the O40s Cup Final in the process.

With both teams roared on by an enthusiastic crowd the first half was attack vs. defence as the two teams traded blows like a pair of prize fighters in a physical affair. In amongst the blood and thunder, Ian Roberts kept a cool head to give Stourport the lead at the break with a neat finish to make it 1-0.

Surinder Saini went close in the second half with a deft deflection for Khalsa that went just wide and then moments later, David Knott punished their miss with a fierce low shot that thundered into the backboard. With 50 minutes gone it was 3-0 as Neil Brown strode forwards from right back and sent a missile into the roof of the net. Khalsa pulled one back through Surinder Saini but the cushion was restored with a strike from Knott before Brown grabbed his second with just two minutes to play to secure the cup for Stourport to the delight of the travelling fans.

Masters O40s Shield Final: Norwich Dragons 1-2 Taunton Vale.

Taunton Vale took the honours in their encounter with Norwich Dragons to seal the Masters O40s Shield title. Two goals before half time came for Taunton with Norwich notching a late consolation from the spot.

It was an open attacking affair with both sides keen to play some nice passing hockey keeping the supporters of both sides suitably entertained. Despite both goalkeepers being called into action in the early going it took until the 21st minute for the deadlock to be broken and it came from the penalty spot as Jonty Lawford kept his cool to beat John Skittrall.

Taunton gave themselves breathing space just before the break with a second goal; Matt Berry applied the finish to send his side in buoyant at the interval.

Norwich pushed hard for a way back into contest throughout the second period but despite some enterprising attacking play they were kept at arm’s length by some resolute defending form Taunton. They got their goal but it was a case of a consolation rather than a way back in, coming as it did in the 70th minute from a Wolfe penalty stroke.

Masters O60s Cup Final Worcestershire and Herefordshire 1-3 Indian Gymkhana

Indian Gymkhana retained the title they won last year with a comfortable 3-1 win over Worcestershire and Herefordshire in the O60s Cup Final.

The holders scored in the opening salvos with a slick penalty corner which was finished off by Kulbir Bhaura. Worcestershire and Herefordshire hit back a minute later after a nice run and cross from Trevor Denison was turned in by Steve Heslop.
Surjit Panesar showed his quality in the Gymkhana goal with a couple of solid blocks from penalty corners whilst at the other end Bhaura almost had his second but his shot went wide. With 14 minutes on the clock Manjit Ubhi put Gymkhana ahead with a nice finish and then just before the break Manjit Flora scored from the spot to make it 3-1 at half time.

Keith Willis in the W and H goal made a couple of fine saves to ensure the score remained close and at the other end Panesar did well to deny Godfrey Lamb twice in quick succession. With five minutes left W and H thought they’d found a way back into the game but Suti Kehar produced a wonderful goal line clearance to preserve the two-goal cushion and Indian Gymkhana saw the game out to retain the trophy.

Masters O40s Trophy Final: Henley 2-3 Cannock.

A goalkeeping masterclass from Henley’s Robin Feasey was not enough as Cannock battled to a 3-2 win in the Masters O40s Trophy Final. Goals from James Roberts, Duncan Woods and Andy Humphrey were enough despite strikes from Paul Chedzey and Dan Herbert for Henley.

Feasey started his defiance of Cannock with an excellent double save early on before making another fine stop to repel a Woods penalty corner. At the other end Jody Measures showed good skills to engineer some space but his low shot was saved by Jon Chappell.
Cannock's Rob Davies latched onto an aerial and hit a reverse on the bounce but Feasey got a strong glove on the ball once again. It was looking like there was no way past the Henley goalkeeper but then shortly before half time, James Roberts slipped the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs from a penalty corner to make it 1-0.

A minute after the break Paul Chedzey levelled the scores with a well taken finish for Henley before Woods was kept out once more by Feasey.

Woods eventually got the better of the goalkeeper with a splendid goal, diving to get a touch onto a long pass from Chris Mayer to divert the ball into the roof of the net. Henley refused to lie down, however and Herbert produced a lovely finish on the turn to make it 2-2.
Thoughts started to turn to a penalty shootout but Cannock had other ideas and Humphrey bagged the winner with time running out from a well-worked penalty corner to break Henley hearts and send the trophy to Cannock.

NZ National U21 Tournament underway in Wellington

The Midlands Men have started their National Under 21 Tournament campaign with a nail biting shoot-out win against the Southern Dogs.

In a tight, see-sawing affair, the Southern Men took the lead midway through the first half thanks to a field goal from Jared Hewitt.

The score remained 1-0 at halftime despite some great chances for both sides. Midlands ramped up the pressure in the second half, with the strong Southern defence finally relenting as Joe Lyons scored the equaliser for Midlands with six minutes to play.

With plenty of chances for both times, the final five minutes proved to be a tense time, however no further goals were scored and we had our first shoot-out of the tournament.

Despite going behind early in the shootout, Midlands managed to recover after some great saves by goalkeeper Taz Nicholson to win the shoot-out 4-3 and pick up the extra point from the game.

Midlands captain Connor Herewini was pleased with how his side recovered after going down early.

“Once we scored that equalising goal we were really pumped up to try and get the winner."

Herewini says the team are enjoying having a player of the caliber of Leo Mitai-Wells, a National Development Squad member, in the group.

“He is a character, he brings a lot of banter to the team! On the turf with his skills he really helps us too."

Southern co-captains Johnny Thorn and Andrew Ross were understandably disappointed to go down but were pleased with how their young side performed.

“We have lost seven or eight senior players from last year and the young players have stepped up well.”

Ross explained the difficulties Southern have had with their build up this year.

”We played Canterbury four weeks ago and we had an invitational squad play us so we have only really had two full games together."

In earlier women’s results, defending champions Auckland beat the Barbarians 10-1, Midlands defeated Canterbury 3-1, North Harbour downed Southern 1-0 and the Central team accounted for Capital 3-1.

In the men’s competition, the Barbarians beat North Harbour 4-1, Auckland edged Central 4-3 and Capital overcame Canterbury 4-1.
