Wavre, Belgium: The Ireland Women’s Hockey Team suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Scotland in their first of their phase 2 FIH Hockey World Cup matches. Having gone a goal down in the opening quarter, Ireland’s Emily Kealy drew her side level before half-time. But a stunning Charlotte Watson strike just minutes into the second half proved the difference-maker, as Scotland secured the 2-1 win.

The Indian men's team received a huge blow in the race to qualify for the Hockey World Cup semi-finals as they went down 1-3 to the Netherlands in Amstelveen on Saturday. Coming up against the Olympic champions, playing at home, Harmanpreet Singh's goal was not enough to save India's day. It has left them facing an uphill task. The Netherlands now have six points in Pool E (they carried over three points from the previous stage) after their win over India and are through to the semi-finals. The Harmanpreet Singh-led India have 0 points (they did not carry over any points from the previous round).



How can India qualify for Men’s Hockey World Cup 2026 semifinals after Netherlands loss?

While the Dutch have boosted their chances of making the semifinals with this win, the Harmanpreet Singh-led Indian team is not yet out of contention for a berth in the last four.
