Spain, Germany enter final of Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup

A first-time finalist, a team now eyeing it’s eighth title, and two sides with broken hearts – that was the story of the semi-finals day at the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup in Chennai on Sunday. In other words, Spain entered their maiden final, defending champions Germany made it to their 10thtitle match and the hopes of a third trophy for India and Argentina ended.

Spain became the first team to book its spot in the final of the FIH Men’s Hockey Junior World Cup 2025 with a narrow 2-1 victory over Argentina on Sunday at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium.

Argentina head coach fumes as contentious goal takes Spain into final

The 2016 Rio Olympics gold medallist, now mentoring the junior squad, alleged that referees 'f****d' his team during the tournament with cards, and the winning goal was “clearly not a goal”.

A tight semifinal between Spain and Argentina came down to a couple of controversial moments at the FIH Junior World Cup. A contentious Spanish goal in the 56th minute, eventually credited to Albert Serrahima, proved to be the difference as Argentina were beaten 1-2, leaving their head coach Juan Gilardi fuming.

Germany played a master class hockey to easily overcome the hosts and enter the final once more. Germany, which has Indian Olympic like record in the Junior World Cup domain, displayed such a precision and press that the Indians had no clue or answer. Their usually alert and inform goalie Prince Deep Singh and his replacement Bikramjit Singh gave away easily goals, rushing up early to let the hawkish Germany up the ante.

India beaten comprehensively by Germany in semifinal

The match had been highly anticipated, pitting the world’s No. 1 and No. 2-ranked junior sides against each other. However, any expectation of a close contest was immediately shattered, as Germany needed less than a minute to demonstrate the gulf in class and composure.

Defending champion Germany completely outplayed host India to join Spain in the final of the FIH Men’s Hockey Junior World Cup 2025 with a 5-1 semifinal victory on Sunday at the packed Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium.

Defensive errors, lack of steel in midfield, turnovers in offence hurt PR Sreejesh-coached team during their 1-5 loss to seven-time champions and title holders Germany

On a night when pretty much everything that could go wrong went wrong — the oft-repeated pithy version of Murphy’s Law — India were outplayed physically and tactically by a superior German side in the semifinals of the men’s FIH Junior World Cup in Chennai. The seven-time champions will get to defend their title after a 5-1 win as PR Sreejesh’s wards were left to rue to a poor start to the match and multiple errors in both sides of the pitch at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium where fans turned up in good numbers once more, but didn’t have much to cheer other than a late consolation goal when the match was all but done.

Sreejesh laments India conceding easy goals after semifinal loss to Germany

The Men’s Junior World Cup semifinal pitted the top two youth sides in the world — Germany (No. 1) and India (No. 2) — but the Germans thrashed the host 5-1.

India’s head coach, P. R. Sreejesh, attributed his side’s crushing 1-5 defeat to seven-time champion Germany to execution failures and “silly mistakes” in the FIH Men’s Junior World Cup semifinal on Sunday.

The bigger picture: How Namibia’s Junior Men’s World Cup dream is just the beginning

Two years ago, the World Cup dream seemed unattainable for Namibia. But the historic achievement is a course charted for young Namibians to replicate, if not surpass, what these pioneers have accomplished.
