Asian Games 2026 Review: Two different journeys, one golden finish for Indian hockey

India’s Asian Games hockey double brought gold and Olympic qualification, but the contrasting journeys of the men’s and women’s teams reveal very different challenges ahead.

The Asian Games will bring an end to what has been a trying three months for Indian hockey. At least, on the turf. It culminated with both the men’s and women’s teams on their respective podiums, gold medals around their necks, a first for the nation, and tickets to the 2028 Olympics punched.

Nagoya [Japan]: The Indian men’s hockey team successfully defended their Asian Games crown for the very first time in the sport’s history at Aichi-Nagoya two days ago, defeating Malaysia 5-1 in the final. With this victory, the Harmanpreet  Singh-led team also secured their direct qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.



Australia Crowned Champions at Oceania Junior World Cup Qualifiers 2026



Australia’s Burras (Men) and Jillaroos (Women) have sealed regional bragging rights at the Oceania Junior World Cup Qualifiers 2026, sweeping their 3-match series against New Zealand, as the men’s and women’s teams from both nations confirmed their spots at the upcoming FIH Junior Hockey World Cup 2027! 



Amsterdam defeats Rotterdam in top clash

Amsterdam won the top clash against Rotterdam on the second round. At the Schouten Zekerheid Stadium in Rotterdam, the Amsterdam side won 4–3, putting them top of the table with six points from two matches. Bloemendaal fought back from 2-0 down to secure a 2-2 draw against Pinoké. With three goals, Timo Boers single-handedly led Den Bosch to victory over newly promoted Tilburg.

During the second match round of the State Lottery Hoofdklasse Men, national champions Rotterdam suffered another defeat despite a world-class goal from Timme van der Heijden. Timo Boers scored a hat-trick against Tilburg. Watch the highlights here.



Kampong and Amsterdam play to a draw

The top match on the second round of the Staatsloterij Hoofdklasse Women between Kampong and Amsterdam ended in a draw. At the Klapperboom in Utrecht, Trijntje Beljaars scored twice to prevent defeat for the reigning national champions (2–2). Den Bosch thrashed HGC (0–5) and SCHC beat Rotterdam 4–1. Newly promoted Victoria suffered their second defeat, losing 2–1 to Oranje-Rood in Eindhoven.



Matla reaches the 300-goal mark for Den Bosch

Frédérique Matla reached a special milestone on Sunday. The 29-year-old forward surpassed the 300-goal mark in official matches for Den Bosch during the away match against HGC. She is only the third player in the club’s history to reach that figure, following Maartje Paumen and Mijntje Donners.

During the second match round of the State Lottery Hoofdklasse Women, no fewer than five players scored twice each, whilst Jip Dicke netted her fiftieth field goal.

KUALA LUMPUR: The second round of the Malaysian Hockey League (MHL) begins on Monday, and it has caused havoc for league leaders Tenaga Nasional (TNB) and their season campaign.



Western Wildcats, Watsonians and Uddingston still hold perfect records in the Scottish Open/Men`s Premiership

Five teams started the day with perfect records in the Open/Men’s Premiership but after the action only Western Wildcats, Watsonians and Uddingston retained that status – Edinburgh University and Clydesdale foundered.

The Terps are 11-0 for the seventh time in program history.



COLLEGE PARK, MD — No. 2 Maryland remained perfect in 2026 with a 4-1 victory over Delaware at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex on Sunday afternoon. Three different Terps scored as they improved to 11-0 (2-0 Big Ten) for just the seventh time in program history.

Sunday’s senior day matchup was a routine stellar performance for Maryland field hockey’s offense, scoring at least three goals for the ninth time this year.

Anticipation began to build in Jack Katz Stadium, as nearly 35 minutes of play had come and gone without a single score. With Jessie Eiselin in goal for the Orange and Kaiya Chepow doing the same for the Blue Devils, it seemed that whichever team could break through first would take home the win.



No. 8 Field Hockey Rallies Past No. 5 Wake Forest



CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A dramatic end to the first half propelled No. 8 Harvard field hockey to a 2-1 comeback win against No. 5 Wake Forest this afternoon at Berylson Field.
