India have reaffirmed their continental supremacy and punched their direct ticket to the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 after successfully defending their crown at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 men's hockey competition. In an electric, high-octane gold medal encounter, India held off a spirited challenge from Malaysia to claim back-to-back Asian Games gold medals and secure their 5th continental title.

Kakamigahara: The Indian men’s hockey team ended their Asian Games 2026 campaign in Japan on a historic note by retaining their crown — a second consecutive Asian Games gold — with an emphatic 5-1 win over Malaysia in the final.

India completed an unprecedented golden sweep in hockey as the men’s team defended its Asian Games title a day after the women ended a 44-year wait for their second gold in the continental event.

The Indian men's hockey team clinched the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games after defeating Malaysia 5-1 in the final on Saturday, securing back-to-back gold medals at the continental event.

‘This was important for us’: India coach Craig Fulton on retaining Asian Games hockey gold after World Cup flop

Admitting that qualifying for the LA Olympics was the main task for the year, Fulton insisted that the Asian Games was the priority, regardless of anything that happened at the World Cup.

Hardik Singh is perhaps not only the most important member of the Indian men’s hockey team, but also one of the most passionately honest players around. The vice-captain of the side was exhausted, emotional and extremely proud after the final as India retained the Asian Games title for the first time ever.

NAGOYA: Pakistan defeated South Korea 5–3 in the men’s hockey match at the 2026 Asian Games to secure the bronze medal at Kawasaki Juko Stadium on Saturday.
