54th California Cup International Hockey Tournament’s finals are all set for Monday - Memorial Day, at Moorpark College.
At 1pm, women’s super division’s defending champions, Team Osaka will face Trash Pandas. In Sunday’s first semifinal, Team Osaka defeated Thirsty Turtles 2-0, in a shootout after a goal less draw in regulation. The second semifinal between Trash Pandas and Colorado Bears was also decided after a shootout where the Pandas prevailed 1-0, following a 2-2 tie in regulation.
The men’s super division final will follow at 2pm with the local favorites Bulldogs taking on San Jose Khalsa. In Sunday’s first semifinal, San Jose easily defeated Team Adidas HFS 4-2 while it took a 2-1 shootout win for Bulldogs to prevail over the LA Kings in the second semifinal, after the score was leveled at 3-3 in regulation. Interestingly, all six goals in regulation were scored on penalty corners with Aki Kaepeller scoring a hat trick for the Bulldogs.
In addition to $5,000 cash prize in super division finals, all players in the top three teams of each division will receive gold, silver, or bronze medals.
