FIH Hockey Pro League 2021-2022: match schedule confirmed



The International Hockey Federation (FIH) and the participating National Associations are glad to announce that the match schedule of the third season of the FIH Hockey Pro League is now confirmed. The global home-and-away league involving the best teams in the world will start with the reigning Women’s World Champions Netherlands welcoming their Belgian neighbours on 6 October 2021.  It will finish on 30 June 2022, also with World Champions involved - the Men’s one, this time - with Belgium hosting Spain.

Shirley McCay has decided to call time on her international career after 14 years playing for Ireland.



The 32-year-old was part of the Ireland side that reached the 2018 World Cup final, before helping them qualify for the Olympics for the first time.

Uruguay U22 women’’s national team made history in August when they secured a place at the FIH Women’s Junior World Cup after finishing runners-up to Canada in the final of the Junior Pan American Championships.

T&T's junior men's hockey team will return home on Friday at 10.50 pm.





Lachlan Sharp Signs for Amsterdam

Amsterdam stuns at the last minute before the start of the competition by attracting Lachlan Sharp.



The 24-year-old international was one of the stars in the Australian squad that won silver at the Tokyo Games this summer. Sharp says in a comment that he is looking forward to playing together at Amsterdam with his two Australian teammates Matthew Dawson and Trent Mitton. “I have always wanted to play in the premier league. It’s the best competition in the world,” said Sharp.

Field Hockey Renews City Rivalries with Drexel, at Villanova

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team begins a three-game stretch in which it renews some city rivalries. The first two of those games take place this weekend, starting with the Quakers looking to gain neighborhood bragging rights by hosting Drexel on Friday. On Sunday, the Red and Blue make the trip out to the Proving Grounds in Conshohocken for a meeting with Villanova.

From what has been reported into the current debate into the inclusiveness of hockey and the divide between the private/state school sectors, it seems clear that at the highest level there is a disparity in international participation between those who went to private schools compared to those who attended state schools.
